The establishment of a school botanical garden at Kinu Primary School in Uganda would:
1 • provide much needed nourishment to 700 students 2 • help families find inexpensive and self-sufficient ways to address ill health 3 • would support indigenous knowledge of plants and their cultural values e.g., as food, spice, and medicine and well as their use in celebrations and crafts 4 • help counter act the degradation of the environment as population pressure forces people to cut down forests for cultivation 5 • help preserve animal and plant biodiversity which continues to diminish as resources are extracted from wetlands, forests and grasslands without replacement
